Grace and peace be multiplied unto you, from our great God and Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.
The focus of our prayer and fasting is “Finish the Course” The pertinent scripture is 2 Timothy 4:7-8.
It is of great importance that every baptized believer finishes their course thus, allowing them to obtain the prize. This race that we are running will be the greatest race of our lives, and the reward is out of this world. It is not the famous NYC marathon, which provides accolades from man, but more importantly, we obtain accolades from Almighty God. This race is not one where we compete with each other, but one that is run individually. The prize in this race will be given to those who endure to the end. We are told in Matthew 24:13 “But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.” The Apostle Paul at the end of his race was able to say, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith, Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing”.
This scripture indicates that the journey will be met with its share of challenges. Remember that suffering is a necessary part of the Christian faith. 2 Timothy 2:12 states, “If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he will deny us.” We must understand that the enemy of our soul’s intent is for us not to finish the course. The Apostle Paul reminds us in I Timothy 6 that we must, “fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life.”
Our Christian journey will entail adversity, disappointments, and discouragement, but let us keep in view our eternal reward. Let us keep in mind that we are not alone in the journey, we have the comfort of the Holy Ghost, who will be with us. If you are going through the dark part of your course, just hold on. In this moment of testing and trial, we need to spend time on our faces, seeking the will and mind of God. The Bible reminds us that weeping endures for a night, but joy comes in the morning. The enemy wants us to believe that because we are not able to see Jesus in the flesh, he is not with us. But rest assured, Jesus is there during the storm. He promised never to leave us nor forsake us.
Many of us might be in the fight of our lives, but don’t walk away or throw in the towel. We are told that weeping endures for a night, but joy comes in the morning. We have great examples before us, Jesus is our most excellent example. He finished his course and now he has taken back his place of authority. The Apostles were placed under great duress in their pursuit of God, and many lost their earthly lives but gained eternal life. Let us draw strength from those who have gone before us. We are seeing the scriptures unfold before our very eyes. Let us ensure that we are consumed by the Word of God and extracting our strength from it.
